Peter Flannery

Mayor at Moreton Bay Regional Council

As a former Australian Army soldier and long-serving local Councillor, Moreton Bay Regional Mayor Peter Flannery’s career has been dedicated to serving his country and community. A local of 27 years, Peter is known for his collaborative leadership style and is committed to being a leader for the entire region. When he’s not at the office, you may find Peter at one of Moreton Bay Region’s sporting clubs. He was heavily involved in making the state-of-the-art Moreton Bay Central Sports Complex a reality. A facility that has become a hub for local clubs and attracting high-quality sports competition to the region, such as AFL and Soccer matches. Peter was a pivotal driver for the construction of the Burpengary Community War Memorial, which has become a special site for the greater region, as well as a place of gathering to commemorate soldiers' past and present on Anzac Day, Remembrance Day, and Vietnam Veterans’ Day. During his time as a Councillor, Peter has helped Moreton Bay to become one of the fastest-growing council regions in Australia and sees the delivery of catalytic projects like the Peninsula Railway Line, The Mill Priority Development Area at Petrie, and University Sunshine Coast Moreton Bay as the foundation for even greater investment and prosperity.

As Mayor, he has committed to making Council open and transparent with the community, especially about planning and development. He is passionate about technology, innovation, and medical research - and wants to see the jobs of tomorrow being created here in the Moreton Bay Region. But in every decision, he believes their lifestyle and environment must be the most important considerations to ensure these remain for future generations and residents.
