Alexa Heaton

Assistant Scientist at Morgridge Institute for Research

Alexa Heaton, Ph.D., serves as an Assistant Scientist and Morgridge Interdisciplinary Postdoctoral Fellow at the Morgridge Institute for Research since August 2019, under the mentorship of Dr. Melissa Skala. Previously, Alexa held the position of NSF Research Fellow at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, focusing on the design and synthesis of novel semifluorinated polymers for drug delivery systems from August 2014 to June 2019. Additional roles at the University of Wisconsin-Madison included Graduate Research Assistant at the Zeeh Pharmaceutical Experiment Station, and Graduate Teaching Assistant for various Organic Chemistry courses. Earlier academic experiences encompass undergraduate research and teaching roles at the University of Michigan-Flint and an internship at Amyris. Alexa holds a Ph.D. and an MS in Organic Chemistry from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a Bachelor's Degree in Honors Chemistry from the University of Michigan-Flint.
