Gerrit Hattingh has extensive experience in the field of Art and Design education. Gerrit started their career as the Head of Department Visual Art and Design at Motheo TVET College in 2006. In this role, they were responsible for managing all aspects related to Art and Design Learning, improving results, and creating partnerships with external stakeholders for student placement. Gerrit also aimed to make the faculty self-sustainable financially and contribute to the community by providing well-trained and skilled youth. Prior to this, Gerrit served as the HOD Art & Design at Lady Grey Arts Academy from January 2001 to July 2006.
Gerrit Hattingh obtained a Masters degree in higher education with a specialization in art education from UOFS. Gerrit completed this degree between 2008 and 2009, receiving a cum laude distinction for their thesis on "The relationship between personality and learning in art". In addition to their degree, Gerrit Hattingh also acquired several certifications. These include the International Computer Driving Licence from the ECDL Foundation, obtained in September 2012, and a Moderator Course from ETDP Seta Accreditation nr 10222, obtained in February 2012. Furthermore, they completed a Quantitative research (SQUAN) certification from the Centre for Higher Education Studies and Development in October 2008, and also obtained a certification in Writing and computer skills for the researcher from the University of the Free State in October 2008.
