Marcel de Leeuw

Marcel de Leeuw has over 25 years of experience in the field of bioinformatics. Marcel began their career in 1994 as a Signal Processing Engineer at SAPHIR. Marcel then moved on to Genome Express in 1999, where they served as Head of IT/Bioinformatics. In 2006, they took on the role of Global Business Leader, DNA Sequencing at Cogenics & Beckman Coulter Genomics, where they were responsible for project management, marketing, and bioinformatics pipeline design and data analysis. In 2010, they became a Sr. Staff Bioinformatics Scientist at Beckman Coulter Genomics, Sanger and NGS sequencing for discovery and clinical applications, where they were involved in variant analysis, RNA-Seq, microbial genome assembly, meta-genome analysis, hybrid 454 & Illumina de novo assembly, automated study reporting, project management and consulting, team work and business systems, and scientific publication. In 2015, they co-founded GeneCreek, a company dedicated to enabling scientists and physicians to improve healthcare and well-being using the analytic power of genomics. Currently, they are a Senior Principal Scientist, Bioinformatics at MRM Health.

Marcel de Leeuw obtained their MSc in Information Technology from Eindhoven University of Technology between 1984 and 1990. Between 1990 and 1994, they studied Speech Recognition at Grenoble INP - UGA. In addition, Marcel de Leeuw has obtained four certifications from various institutions, including the European Union Commiission and the Ministère de l'Education Nationales, de l'Enseignement Supérieur et de la Recherche. These certifications were obtained between 2007 and 2018.
