Dr. Joseph Macharola currently serves as the Superintendent of the Muhlenberg School District since August 2013, overseeing a diverse PK-12 public school district that serves over 4,366 students and 513 employees. Prior experience includes an Adjunct Associate Professorship at Saint Francis University, teaching various graduate-level education courses from May 1998 to August 2013, and the role of Executive Director at Appalachia Intermediate Unit 08, which provided educational and business services to over 63,000 students across numerous school districts and non-public schools from June 2009 to July 2013. Dr. Macharola also held the position of Superintendent at Cambria Heights School District between March 2007 and June 2009, and worked as Principal at William P. Kimmel Alternative School in the Altoona Area School District from June 2000 to March 2007, focusing on education and therapeutic services for at-risk youth. Dr. Macharola earned a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) from Duquesne University.
