Chelo Montoya has a diverse work experience in the arts and education fields. Since August 2019, they have been serving as the Assistant Vice President of Adult Education and Public Programs at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA). Prior to that, Chelo founded and worked as a freelance artist and designer at _I Crop Collective starting from November 2015.

Chelo also held the position of Director of Education and Public Programs at the California African American Museum from March 2017 to July 2019. Before that, they worked as a Program Manager and Faculty for the MFA Public Practice at Otis College of Art and Design from July 2007 to March 2017. In addition, Chelo gained valuable experience as an Administrative Intern at the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority in the Metro Art division from November 2006 to June 2007.

Chelo Montoya has a diverse education history. In 1998, they obtained a certificate in Fine Art from the California Institute of the Arts. The following year, in 1999, Chelo earned a Certificate in Graphic Design from the California College of the Arts. During the same year, Chelo also pursued a Bachelor of Fine Art degree at the University of California, Santa Cruz, which they completed in 2003. Later on, from 2005 to 2008, Chelo attended the University of Southern California and earned a Master's degree in Public Art Studies. Lastly, from 2015 to 2018, Chelo completed a Master's degree in Fine Arts with a specialization in Graphic Design from the Otis College of Art and Design.
