Gabriela is currently serving as the Director of Gallery Learning at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) since September 2021. Prior to that, they held multiple roles at the Museum of Latin American Art (MOLAA) and other organizations from 2011, including being a Curator, where they curated various exhibits exploring identity, art history, and culture.

Martinez also has a notable background at MOLAA, where they worked from 2007 to 2021 in various positions, including Director of Education, Curator of Education, Associate Vice President of Education, Education Coordinator, Education Assistant, and Contract Teaching Artist. In these roles, they developed comprehensive long-term strategic plans, wrote interactive gallery guides, and managed public programs. Gabriela also facilitated art workshops, developed curriculum, and coordinated logistics for educational events.

Gabriela Martinez's education history begins in 1995, where they attended La Sierra University. Following this, Gabriela enrolled in the Ethnic Studies M.A. program at San Francisco State University from 2001 to 2002 but did not obtain a degree. Gabriela later joined California State University, Long Beach in 2003 and completed their Master of Fine Arts degree in Printmaking in 2008.
