Lauren Hanson

Assistant Curator Of Modern Art at MUSEUM ASSOCIATES

Lauren Hanson has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of art history and curation. Lauren started their most recent position as the Assistant Curator of Modern Art at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) in April 2023. Prior to that, from September 2019 to August 2022, they worked as the Stefan Engelhorn Curatorial Fellow in the Busch-Reisinger Museum at Harvard Art Museums. In 2019, they also served as a Lecturer at Texas State University from January to July. Their previous roles include being an Assistant Instructor in Art History at The University of Texas at Austin - College of Liberal Arts from August 2016 to May 2017, an Andrew W. Mellon Curatorial Fellow in Modern and Contemporary Art at the Blanton Museum of Art from August 2015 to May 2016, and a Pre-Doctoral Fellow at the Terra Foundation for American Art during the summer of 2015. Lauren also received a Long Term Doctoral Research Grant from the DAAD German Academic Exchange Service from October 2012 to August 2013, as well as a Library Research Grant from the Getty Research Institute in 2012-2013. Lastly, they started their career in the field as a Teaching Assistant for The Fulbright Program from 2007 to 2008.

Lauren Hanson's education history begins in 2003 when they attended Duke University and received their AB degree in Art History (with Distinction) and German in 2007. Lauren then went on to pursue their Master of Arts degree in Art History at The University of Texas at Austin from 2008 to 2010. Building upon their master's studies, Lauren continued their academic journey at the same university and obtained their Doctor of Philosophy degree in Art History from 2010 to 2018.
