Cynthia Lugo began their work experience in 2001 as an intern at The Museum of Modern Art. Cynthia then interned at the Michael Ingbar Gallery of Art in 2003 and conducted research as a research assistant at Bryn Mawr College during the same year. In 2004, Cynthia joined the Museum of the Moving Image where they served as an intern, research associate, and consultant. During their time there, they were responsible for writing film program notes and press materials, obtaining publicity stills, and organizing retrospectives. Cynthia also worked on projects such as The Living Room Candidate and curated retrospectives of the work of Mira Nair. From 2006 to 2007, they were a teaching assistant at Brown University. In 2008, Cynthia became a media strategist at AD Lubow LLC, where they stayed until 2010. At BAM, Cynthia worked as a marketing manager from 2010 to 2013. Finally, in 2013, they joined the Museum of the Moving Image again, this time as the Director of Marketing.

Cynthia Lugo began their education at Stuyvesant High School from 1997 to 2001. Cynthia then pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and History of Art at Bryn Mawr College, graduating in 2005. Following their undergraduate studies, Cynthia attended Brown University, where they obtained a Master's degree in Modern Culture and Media between 2005 and 2007.
