Aaron Sizemore

Co-Founder, Executive Director at Music House School of Music Overland Park

Music House Co-founder, Aaron Sizemore grew up in the Quad Cities, a hotbed of blues and jazz along the Mississippi River on the Illinois/Iowa border. He started out on the trumpet when he was nine years old, then switched to guitar three years later. He began playing professionally at 15. Within a year, he was working steadily with some of the best blues, R&B, funk, and rock musicians in the area. He learned from his peers—older musicians, sometimes more than twice his age—while on the bandstand. While at the University of Iowa, Aaron’s interests turned toward jazz. He studied theory, composition, and jazz guitar under the great Steven Grismore. Again, he learned while on the bandstand, working in various ensembles with the area’s finest jazz musicians. After a three year foray into pre-medicine at the University of Colorado, Aaron moved to Kansas City to continue his career in music. Over the years he has performed with Steve Grismore, Paquito D’Rivera, Patrick Williams, Nestor Torres, Angela Hagenbach, The Sons of Brazil, and many others.

Music House School of Music Overland Park

Music House School of Music is far more than just a place to take music lessons in Overland Park, Lenexa, Prairie Village & Olathe. We're a community founded and operated by professional musicians and teachers. We built the school around the belief that musical passion and advancement thrives within a vibrant community, through diverse exposure and interaction. Private music lessons simply aren't enough. That's why Music House, in addition to private lesson instruction, offers a world of performance opportunities, group classes, rock bands & specialized ensembles, and a diverse catalog of free weekend music classes. And that's why we've grown into a community of over 800 students and over 30 teachers and administrators with locations in Overland Park, Lenexa, & Prairie Village. Most of us have memories of less-than-engaging music lessons. We do music education in a different way that constantly excites and intrigues students. Our students – backed by a team of collaborative, experienced instructors – play together, perform onstage, and become a part of something bigger than themselves.
