Patricia L. Musick

Patricia Musick is the Senior Vice President of People and Performance at McAnany, Van Cleave & Phillips. She has been practicing law for 24 years, 16 of which have been with MVP. In 2006, Ms. Musick opened MVP’s Springfield, Missouri office. Ms. Musick litigates workers’ compensation claims and labor and employment matters. She works with many employers, implementing programs to limit workers’ compensation and litigation claims.

Ms. Musick successfully argues and defends cases before the Missouri Court of Appeals, the Labor and Industrial Relations Commission, and the Missouri Division of Workers’ Compensation. She has experience in both judge and jury trials in state and federal courts and has a jury trial record of 10 wins and 0 losses. She successfully defended the employer in Tidwell v. C. A. Walker Construction, convincing the trial court, the Labor and Industrial Relations Commission, and the Court of Appeals that the claim did not arise out of and in the course of the claimant’s employment. In Cantrell v. Baldwin Transportation, Inc., No. SD 29642, — S.W.3d —- (Mo. App. S.D. 2009), Ms. Musick successfully defended an employer and insurer in a claim for permanent partial disability benefits by a deceased employee’s widow, convincing the Administrative Law Judge, the Labor and Industrial Relations Commission, and the Court of Appeals that the claimant failed to prove accrual of permanent partial disability prior to the employee’s death from causes unrelated to the work injury because the employee had not reached maximum medical improvement at the time of his death. In Hosmann v. Bill Grant Ford, SD35263, — S.W.3d — (Mo. App. S.D.2018). Ms. Musick successfully defended an employer and insurer in a claim for permanent total disability benefits, convincing the Administrative Law Judge, the Labor and Industrial Relations Commission and the Court of Appeals that the claimant was not credible with an ultimate holding that claimant did not sustain an occupational injury nor injury by accident.

At the Washington University Law School, Ms. Musick was on the National Trial Advocacy Team that won first place at the national competition. She won the William M. Pomerantz prize for excellence in advocacy. She often speaks at seminars on Missouri and Arkansas workers’ compensation benefits. In 2015, Ms. Musick received the Trusted Advisor Award from the Springfield Business Journal. In 2018, Ms. Musick was published in the CLM Workers Compensation Magazine in an article entitled “2018 Workers’ Compensation Predictions.” In 2019 she was featured in the Springfield Business Journal’s feature on female leaders in the region.

Ms. Musick has served on the firm’s Board of Directors. She is the current chairperson of the Ronald McDonald Charities of the Ozarks Board of Directors and has served as a Board member for 3 years. Ms. Musick also currently serves as the president of the CIBA which is the parent teacher association for IB students at Central High School. She is an avid tennis player and a former national champion in NCAA Division III tennis.
