Bernd Schönwälder

Bernd S. currently serves as the Head of the Operations Security Section at the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) since January 2018. Previous experience includes leading the Security & Safety Section at the Special Tribunal for Lebanon from February 2009 to January 2018 and holding various roles at the United Nations and Special Court for Sierra Leone, focusing on security and safety operations. Bernd S. has a foundational career in law enforcement with Polizei Hamburg and the Bundeswehr. Educational qualifications include a Master of Arts in Criminal Justice, Governance and Police Science from Ruhr University Bochum, a Certificate in Terrorism Studies from the University of St Andrews, and a Bachelor's degree in Public Administration from the University of Applied Sciences for Public Administration in Hamburg.
