David Gruber

Scientist In Residence at Mystic Aquarium

David Gruber is a Distinguished Professor of Biology and Professor of Environmental Sciences at the City University of New York, where interdisciplinary research spans marine biology, biophysics, climate science, and animal communication. As the Founder and Lead of Project CETI, David applies advanced machine learning to decipher sperm whale communication. David is also an Explorer with National Geographic, contributing to coral reef exploration and conservation efforts. Additional roles include Research Associate at the American Museum of Natural History, Adjunct Fellow at The John B. Pierce Laboratory, and a collaborative Associate at Harvard University. David's educational background includes a PhD in Biological Oceanography from Rutgers University, an M.S. in Journalism from Columbia University, and a Master's degree in Coastal Environmental Management from Duke University.
