Metin Sitti has worked in a variety of roles in both academic and industrial settings. In 1994, they began as a Research Engineer at TUBITAK Marmara Research Center, CAD/CAM Robotics Group, where they conducted research on robot vision and intelligent robotics. Metin also conducted two industrial projects related to quality control using automated vision and robotic systems. In 1999, they joined UC Berkeley - EECS Dept. as a Research Scientist, where they conducted research on gecko-inspired micro-fiber adhesives and insect-inspired micromechanical flying insect robots. Metin was also a Lecturer at UC Berkeley in 2002 and taught Micro/Nano-Robotics with ~45 graduate students. In 2002, they joined Carnegie Mellon University as a Distinguished Service Professor (side academic appointment) and Professor, where they were the director of NanoRobotics Lab. In 2012, they founded Setex Technologies. In 2018, they became a Professor (side academic appointment) at Koç University School of Medicine. In 2020, they joined ETH Zürich as a Professor (side academic appointment). In 2014, they became the Director at Max-Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems.
Metin Sitti received their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Electrical Engineering from The University of Tokyo in 1999. Metin obtained their BSc and MSc in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Physics from Boğaziçi University between 1987 and 1994.
