Ramón Torrecillas has a diverse and extensive work experience spanning several decades. Ramón started their career as a PhD researcher at INSA de Lyon in 1987 and worked there until 1991. Following this, they joined the Instituto Tecnológico de Materiales de Asturias as the Director of the Ceramics and Refractories Department from 1991 to 1994. Afterwards, they became a researcher at INCAR-CSIC from 1994 to 2009.
In 2008, Torrecillas took on the role of Executive Managing Director at CSIC - NANOMATERIALS AND NANOTECHNOLOGY RESEARCH CENTER, responsible for the creation of the CINN research center. Ramón held this position until December 2020. In 2009, they briefly served as the Executive Managing Director at ITMA MATERIALS TECHNOLOGY until 2011.
In 2013, Torrecillas joined Moscow State Technological University as a Leading Scientist, where they established a research group focused on material-field interactions and the development of advanced nanomaterials and nanocomposites. Ramón worked there until 2015.
In addition to their academic and research roles, Torrecillas founded two companies. In 2005, they founded Bioker, and in 2011, they founded NANOKER RESEARCH, S.L., which specializes in advanced technical ceramics, nanomaterials, and nanocomposites for various industries.
Torrecillas also served as the CSIC Brussels Delegate from December 2019 to December 2020. Currently, they hold the position of Chief Executive Officer at Fundación General CSIC, starting in December 2020.
Ramón Torrecillas completed their education in a chronological order. Firstly, from 1981 to 1986, they pursued their degree in Physics at the Universidad de Zaragoza. Following that, they went on to complete their PhD in Advanced Ceramics at the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas from 1986 to 1992. Additionally, they simultaneously pursued another PhD degree in Materials Science and Engineering from 1987 to 1991 at INSA de Lyon, France.
