Steve Chien

Steve Chien is a distinguished JPL Fellow and Senior Research Scientist specializing in Artificial Intelligence and Autonomous Systems at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, California Institute of Technology / NASA, with tenure beginning in December 1990. Chien has led significant R&D projects with multimillion-dollar budgets, achieving notable advancements in operational efficiency and cost savings through the integration of advanced AI technologies. Chien's academic contributions include adjunct faculty roles at the University of Southern California and research positions at UCLA, alongside leadership as Chief Scientist at Virgin Charter. Chien holds a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where multiple degrees in the same field were also obtained. Notably, Chien has been active within the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence and has served as a visiting scholar at UCLA's Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science.
