Prior to this, they were an Intern for Robotics and Mobility at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory from April 2017 to December 2017. There, they worked on high speed flight for quadrotor robots, specifically focusing on the trajectory planning and control algorithms for the system to be able to fly at high speeds, close to obstacles and adhering to dynamic constraints. The project involved work from the hardware through multiple layers of controls up to graphical user interfaces.

Before their work at NASA, Peter Coen was a student at the University of Sydney where they obtained their PhD in Autonomous Navigation Systems Research. Peter also chaired (2016/17) and was a committee member (2010-2016) for AIAA Sydney Section.
