Dr. Leonard Schultz

Founder, Chairman and CEO at Nascent Surgical

Dr. Leonard Schultz has worked in the medical field since 1975, when they joined the US Navy as a Commander. In 1977, they joined Hickok and Schultz, PA as a General Surgeon, providing general surgical services to several leading hospitals in Minneapolis and St. Paul. Dr. Leonard specialized in laser surgery for tumor vaporization and laparoscopy for general surgery procedures. In 2000, they founded JLJ Medical Devices International, LLC, which developed the world's first laparoscopic filter used to remove smoke from the abdomen during laparoscopic surgery. The company was sold to Cooper Surgical Inc. In 2010, they founded Nascent Surgical and invented the SQUAIR, a surgical device proven to capture and remove 99.5% of the bioaerosols formed at the incision site during open surgery. The device is designed to protect the respiratory health of the entire operating room team.

Dr. Leonard Schultz completed their Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) at New York University from 1958 to 1962. Dr. Leonard then attended the University of Louisville School of Medicine, where they obtained their Doctor of Medicine (MD) from 1962 to 1966. Following that, they completed an Internship in General Surgery at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai from 1966 to 1967. Finally, they completed their General Surgery Residency at the University of Minnesota from 1967 to 1975.
