Helen McCarthy

Senior Researcher, Communities, Work & Income at NatCen Social Research

Helen recently joined NatCen as a Senior Researcher in the Communities, Work and Income team. She has extensive experience delivering policy-relevant qualitative research. She is in currently in the final stages of her doctoral degree in sociology at Middlesex University, where she conducted a mixed-methods project examining recent migration from Spain to the UK.

Prior to joining NatCen she worked on research projects investigating integration policy and practice at the Centre on Migration, Policy, and Society (COMPAS) at the University of Oxford and for the Migration Policy Institute Europe, a think tank based in Brussels. She previously worked in the Integration and Faith team in the UK Government’s Department for Communities and Local Government and at Amnesty International in Brussels.

Helen received a Master’s degree (distinction) in Global Migration from the University College London (UCL) and a first class Master’s degree in Social Anthropology from the National University of Ireland, Maynooth.
