Alex Penne is an accomplished scholar and researcher pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Engineering with a focus on Electrical and Computer Engineering, along with a minor in Physics, at Duke University. Currently serving as a Thomas C. Katsouleas Grand Engineering Challenges Scholar at the National Academy of Engineering, Alex is dedicated to exploring improvements in urban infrastructure through research, coursework, and entrepreneurship. Experience includes roles as a Technical Specialist at NK Patent Law, contributing to patent-prosecution tasks, and as an Innocence Project Assistant Investigator and Undergraduate Liaison with the Duke University School of Law, investigating claims of factual innocence in North Carolina. Additional contributions as a Student Researcher at Bridgeman Lab include hands-on work with feedback control systems, while previous internships at Altec and Triangle Universities Nuclear Laboratory provided further experience in control systems and electrical engineering. Alex's research on UAV technology in Singapore also highlights a commitment to understanding the intersection of technology and human rights.
