Jose Chavez

Jose Chavez is an experienced professional in environmental education and management, currently serving on the Member Board of Directors for the National Association for Interpretation since January 2021 and as Nature Center Director for Mecklenburg County since August 2008. In this role, Jose oversees daily operations, personnel, and budgeting while achieving both short-term and long-term goals related to visitation and revenue. Previous positions include serving on the Board of Directors and as the Sunny Southeast Region Director for the National Association for Interpretation from January 2013 to June 2017, as well as working as a Naturalist at Cleveland Metroparks and as Environmental Education Program Coordinator at YMCA of Greater Charlotte. Jose began the career as an intern at the United Nations Environment Programme in 2001. Jose holds a degree in Ecology and Environmental Science from Universidad del Valle de México, earned between 1994 and 1998.
