Julie Squire

Julie Squire has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Julie has held various leadership roles in governmental organizations and legal firms.

From 2015 to present, Julie worked as the Vice President of Policy and General Counsel at the National Association of State Workforce Agencies. In this role, they supported state workforce agencies in strengthening the workforce system, with a focus on areas such as unemployment insurance, equal opportunity, and adult education.

Prior to that, Julie served as the Assistant Secretary for the Division of Workforce Development and Adult Learning at the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation from 2013 to 2015. Julie'sresponsibilities included managing the state workforce agency, improving service delivery, and increasing coordination between adult and correctional education units.

From 2009 to 2013, Julie was the Director of the Division of Unemployment Insurance at the State of Maryland. Julie led the state's Unemployment Insurance program through the recession and played a key role in negotiating and coordinating legislations to secure federal incentive funds. Julie also collaborated with diverse groups to pass legislative initiatives benefiting part-time workers, victims of domestic violence, and individuals with recent earnings.

Before their role at the Division of Unemployment Insurance, Julie worked as the Deputy Assistant Secretary at the same institution from 2008 to 2009.

From 1999 to 2008, Julie served as an Assistant Attorney General at the Office of the Attorney General in the State of Maryland. Julie provided legal counsel to the Division of Unemployment Insurance and the Division of Workforce Development, negotiating contracts, drafting policies, and defending the state in litigation cases.

Julie began their career as an Associate at Gallagher Evelius & Jones, a law firm, from 1991 to 1998. Julie worked on general practice law with a focus on employment, healthcare, education, litigation, and construction. Julie also engaged in significant pro bono work during this time.

Julie Squire earned their Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Goucher College between 1983 and 1987. Julie then went on to attend The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law, where they obtained their Juris Doctor degree in Law from 1987 to 1990.

Additionally, in 1990, Julie Squire was admitted to practice law in Maryland by the Maryland Court of Appeals. Later, in January 2018, they obtained admission to practice law in the District of Columbia from the Bar of the District of Columbia Court of Appeals.
