Whitney Goodwin Bouknight serves as the General Counsel for the National Board of Examiners in Optometry since May 2021, becoming the first in-house counsel for the organization, which oversees optometric licensure examinations in the U.S. and internationally. Prior experience includes a role as an Attorney at McGuireWoods LLP, focusing on legal analysis for financial services litigation, and as an Adjunct Professor at Central Piedmont Community College, teaching Business Law. Earlier positions include Associate Attorney at K&L Gates, handling corporate law and mergers & acquisitions, and an internship at the U.S. House of Representatives Office of Majority Whip. Whitney obtained a Doctor of Law degree from Washington and Lee University School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Science from Furman University.

NBEO's mission is to serve the public and profession of optometry by developing, administering, scoring, and reporting results of valid examinations that assess competence.
