National Card and Payment Scheme – Bulgaria
The Bulgarian National Card and Payment Scheme has officially started its activity at the end of 2016 steps on the solid foundation of the existing and well known on the market “national card Borica”. The Scheme's main mission is migration of cash and paper-based payments to digital channels through development of new electronic services in the public and private sector. Positioning the wide range of Scheme products through new local business and price models is expected to have a positive impact on the economy of the state and to change radically the payment methods in Bulgaria. The first "national card Bcard" has been issued in June 2018 and has a modern vision that follows the European development trends. At present bcard cards are accepted at over 5,470 ATMs, about 103,220 virtual and physical POS terminals installed at 43,730 merchants across the country. 30% of the terminals are equipped with contactless functionality.
