Perry Carpenter has a diverse work experience in the field of cybersecurity and media. Perry is currently the Co-Creator & Co-Host of the Digital Folklore Podcast at 8th Layer Media, where they explore the real-world truths behind internet culture. As the Founder of 8th Layer Media, they create educational and entertaining content on cybersecurity, technology, human behavior, risk, and culture. Prior to that, they served as the Chief Evangelist and Strategy Officer at KnowBe4, Inc., where they focused on defending against phishing and spear phishing attacks. Perry also worked as the Host & Producer of the 8th Layer Insights Podcast at The CyberWire, diving into the influence of human nature on security and risk. Perry is a Board Member at the National Cyber Security Alliance and an Official Member & Contributor of the Forbes Business Council. Additionally, Perry has held roles such as Opinion Columnist at CEOWORLD magazine and Owner of The Mind Spy Guy, where they focused on engaging audiences and uncovering psychology insights. Perry has also served as a Board Member at Arkansas InfraGard, focusing on preventing hostile acts against the U.S. Moreover, Perry has held research and leadership positions at Gartner, where they provided insights on security market trends and assisted senior Information Security and Risk executives in achieving their strategic goals. Perry began their career as the Head of IT Security Communications at Fidelity National Information Services, where they served financial institutions globally.

Perry Carpenter holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy, Biblical Studies, and Languages from Ouachita Baptist University, which they completed from 1991 to 1995. Perry then pursued a Juris Doctor degree at the University of Arkansas School of Law, Fayetteville, from 1995 to 1997. In 2006, Perry acquired a Master of Science in Information Assurance from Norwich University. Most recently in 2022, they studied Folklore & Mythology at the Harvard Extension School. Additionally, Perry has obtained several certifications throughout their career, including a Certified Information Privacy Professional and a Certified Information Security Professional. Perry also holds a Certified Chief Information Security Officer credential.
