Rick Allen

Rick Allen is an experienced educator and communication specialist currently serving as an Assistant Professor of Writing & Communication at the National Defense University, where responsibilities include teaching academic writing to international military officers and providing guidance to graduate students. Previously, Rick worked as an Instructional Designer at the Foreign Service Institute and as a Technical Writer/Editor for CACI International Inc., focusing on collaboration with subject matter experts to develop online training and technical documentation. Extensive experience also includes a long tenure at ASCD, where Rick held multiple roles, including Instructional Designer, Project Manager for ASCD Express, Staff Writer, and Editor of Curriculum-Technology Quarterly. Earlier career highlights include serving as Classline Today Editor at USA TODAY and as a Freelance Reporter for The Washington Post. Rick holds an M.A. in English Language and Literature from King's College London and a B.A. in International Affairs from The George Washington University.
