Nina Ognianova

Nina Ognianova is a seasoned professional with extensive experience in journalism and advocacy, currently serving as a Senior Program Officer at the National Endowment for Democracy since July 2018, where strategic programmatic initiatives are implemented in challenging political contexts across Eastern Europe. Previously, Nina held multiple roles at the Committee to Protect Journalists from December 2003 to June 2018, including EU Team Lead, where recruitment and management of the organization's first Brussels-based correspondent were prioritized, and as Program Coordinator and Senior Research Associate focused on advocacy efforts in Europe and Central Asia. Earlier experience includes working as a Staff Writer and Program Officer at the International Center for Journalists, emphasizing media assistance in Central, Eastern, and Southeastern Europe. Nina holds a Master of Arts in International Journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia and a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from the American University in Bulgaria.
