John McHugh

Senior Vice President, Product & Operations at National Geographic Learning ELT

John McHugh has extensive experience in the publishing industry, specifically in the field of English Language Teaching (ELT). John began their career in 1988 as a Marketing Coordinator and Tele-Sales Representative for Heinle/Boyd & Fraser. From 1989 to 1993, they worked as a Sales Representative and then as a Market Development Director for Heinle & Heinle/Thomson, where they developed and implemented marketing campaigns for ELT/ESL products.

In 1996, McHugh became the National College Sales Manager for Heinle & Heinle/Thomson, and then transitioned to the role of Vice President Sales & Marketing in 2000, responsible for global marketing as well as US sales and marketing. During this time, they implemented marketing programs and maintained CRM systems.

From 2006 to 2011, McHugh served as the VP, Managing Director for US at Heinle/Cengage Learning, overseeing sales and publishing for ESL products in the US education markets. John then joined National Geographic Learning ELT in 2011 as the VP, Editorial Director for Global ELT & US School Publishing, leading the product development group for ELT and other school publishing disciplines.

Currently, McHugh holds the position of Senior Vice President, Product & Operations at National Geographic Learning ELT, where they continue to drive growth and lead publishing teams across multiple locations.

John McHugh attended the University of Massachusetts Amherst and received their Bachelor of Arts in French in 1987. During their time there, they were also awarded The Certificate in General Language Interpretation in French. Prior to that, in 1985, they participated in a study abroad program at the Université catholique de l'Ouest. The degree completed during this program was not specified.
