Joseph DeSimone

Trustee at National Geographic Society

Dr. Joseph DeSimone is a world-renowned scientist and inventor who has spent their career at the forefront of technology and innovation. Joseph is currently a Trustee at the National Geographic Society, and previously served as the Co-Chair of the Committee of Effectiveness of National Biosurveillance Systems and as the Chair of the Committee on Convergence in Biomedical Research. Joseph is also the founder of Liquidia Technologies and a Distinguished Professor of Chemical Engineering at North Carolina State University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Throughout their career, Dr. DeSimone has been awarded more than 100 patents and has received numerous prestigious awards, including the National Medal of Technology and Innovation, the Lemelson-MIT Prize, and the American Institute of Chemists Gold Medal.

Joseph DeSimone earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Ursinus College. Joseph went on to earn a Doctor of Philosophy in Polymer Chemistry from Virginia Tech.
