Darrin Morrissey has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Darrin is currently the Chief Executive Officer at the NIBRT National Institute for Bioprocessing Research and Training. Prior to this role, from 2018 to 2020, they served as the CEO of the Health Research Board (HRB), where they played a key role in supporting and conducting research to improve public health in Ireland.
Before joining HRB, from 2014 to 2018, Darrin worked as the Director of Programmes at Science Foundation Ireland. In this role, they managed various programs to promote and fund scientific research in Ireland.
Darrin also has significant experience in the pharmaceutical industry. From 2013 to 2014, they served as the Business Improvement Director at Stiefel, a GSK company. Prior to that, they held multiple roles at GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) from 2007 to 2013, including Business Improvement Manager, Global Oncology Marketing Director, and Head of Oncology.
Before their tenure at GSK, Darrin worked at sanofi-aventis as the European Oncology Marketing Director and Oncology Marketing Manager for Ireland from 2002 to 2007. Darrin also served as the Primary Care Brand Manager for Ireland at Eli Lilly from January to November 2002.
Darrin's early career includes a role as the European Business Development Manager at Tibotec, a J&J company, from 2000 to 2002.

Darrin Morrissey's education history begins in 1987 when they enrolled at University College Cork for their BSc degree in Science Microbiology. Darrin completed this undergraduate program in 1991. Continuously pursuing higher education, Darrin then pursued a PhD at the same university in Cancer biology and successfully completed it in 1997. After a gap of several years, they returned to academic studies in 2008 and joined the National University of Ireland, Galway for a Diploma in Advanced Management Practice, which they finished in 2010. Looking towards professional development, Darrin embarked on a journey of further studies in 2022 at the Institute of Directors (IoD). Darrin obtained a Certificate in Company Direction in 2023 and followed it up with a Diploma in the same field from the IoD during the same timeframe.
