Adrian Puren is an accomplished medical professional currently serving as the Executive Director at the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) since January 2022. With a long-standing tenure at NICD, which began in 1999, Adrian has held prominent positions including Head of the Centre for HIV and STIs and previously served as Sectional Deputy Director for the Centre for Enteric Diseases, as well as the Centre for Respiratory Disease and Meningitis. Adrian holds a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree and a PhD in Medicine from the University of the Witwatersrand, completed between 1979 and 1986.
