Louis J. Gross

Founding Director And Director Emeritus at National Institute for Modeling Biological Systems (NIMBioS)

Louis J. Gross serves as the Founding Director and Director Emeritus of the National Institute for Mathematical and Biological Synthesis (NIMBioS) since September 2008, where Gross was the Principal Investigator for a synthesis center funded by the National Science Foundation and co-sponsored by various federal departments. Concurrently, Gross holds the position of Professor of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and Mathematics at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, directing the Institute for Environmental Modeling. Additional roles include membership on the Board on Life Sciences at the National Academies and service as Treasurer for the American Institute of Biological Sciences. Gross earned a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics and Ecology and Systematics from Cornell University and a BS in Mathematics from Drexel University.
