Elizabeth Church

Acting Director, Division Of Extramural Activities at National Institutes of Health

Elizabeth Church, PhD, currently serves as the Deputy Division Director of Extramural Activities at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and has been with the organization since July 2013. In this role, Elizabeth partners with the Director to oversee a team of 60 staff members managing the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) grant portfolio. Elizabeth has extensive experience in clinical research, having managed clinical trials at the Therapeutics Research Program and significantly increased funding for monoclonal antibody therapeutics. Additional leadership roles include acting chief of various drug development branches, where substantial funding was secured for new drug development projects. Prior to her tenure at NIH, Elizabeth was a Postdoctoral Fellow and Principal Investigator at Harvard Medical School, focusing on glycosylated proteins. Elizabeth holds a PhD in Microbiology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and a BA in Chemistry from DePauw University.
