Olivier Berton

Program Director (nida) / Team Lead, The Brain Initiative at National Institutes of Health

Olivier Berton currently serves as Program Director and Team Lead for The BRAIN Initiative at the National Institutes of Health, managing a research grant portfolio focused on the convergence of cells, circuits science, and behavioral pharmacology. Previously, Olivier held the position of Assistant Professor (Visiting) at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, where significant contributions were made to the discovery of Histone Serotonylation and the therapeutic potential of HDAC6 inhibitors. As an Assistant Professor at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine, Olivier raised over $5 million in research funding, led a research lab, and published extensively on antidepressant therapeutics. Prior experience includes managing a neurobehavioral core facility at UT Southwestern Medical Center and leading a research team at UCB, where novel platforms for dynamic chemical measurement in animal brains were established. Olivier earned a Ph.D. in Neuroscience from Université de Bordeaux and Bordeaux Segalen.
