Jonathan Douglas CBE, Hon FRSL has held various roles throughout their career. Jonathan began as a Team Leader for Childrens Libraries at the City of Westminster in 1996, and then served as an Adviser for Youth and School Libraries at the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals from 1999 to 2003. Following that, they worked as the Head of Policy Development at MLA from 2003 to 2007. In 2007, they became the Chief Executive Officer of the National Literacy Trust, a position they have held since. In 2011, they took on the role of Non-Executive Director at the Money Advice Service until 2018.

Jonathan Douglas CBE, Hon FRSL earned their BA Hons in Theology from Durham University, where they studied from 1988 to 1991. Jonathan later obtained a Post Grad Diploma in Information Studies from London Metropolitan University, completing their studies from 1994 to 1996. In 2014, Jonathan received an honorary Doctor of Letters degree from Oxford Brookes University.
