Darrell Utt

Chief of Business Operations at National Medal of Honor Museum

Darrell Utt is currently the Chief of Business Operations at the National Medal of Honor Museum. Prior to this, they served as the Operational Security Lead for the Protective Design and Security Division of Thornton Tomasetti from February 2019 to February 2022.

Darrell has a long history of protective design and physical security solutions. As a consultative business partner, they conducted comprehensive threat and vulnerability risk assessments across the greater Washington D.C. area for a diverse range of current and prospective clients including many Fortune 500 enterprises. Darrell actively evaluated each client’s current security posture to develop real-world protective design, physical security, and business continuity plans to mitigate potential damage in the event of a natural or man-made disaster.

While offering deep insight as a retired member of the U.S. Special Forces, Darrell was able to leverage Thornton Tomasetti’s suite of technically-advanced, proprietary analytic tools comprised of virtual reality and computer simulation/modeling technologies to design fully-integrated risk mitigation proposals; effectively creating a multifaceted approach towards active and passive threat deterrence and vulnerability mitigation.

Darrell hand-selected a team of expert, field-tested architects and general contractors for each individual project to ensure client expectations were met and exceeded through every step of the security hardening process.

Darrell Utt has a Master of Arts in Intelligence Studies with an emphasis in Terrorism from the American Public University System. Darrell also has a Bachelor of Science in Liberal Arts with an emphasis in Criminal Justice and Protective Services from Excelsior University. In addition, they are certified by ASIS International as a Physical Security Professional (PSP) and a Certified Protection Professional (CPP). Darrell also has a Utility Risk and Resilience Certificate from the American Water Works Association and a BPATS Certificate of Training from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Additionally, they are SIRA certified by Rozin Security and Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWAI) certified by the Defense Acquisition University. Lastly, they are an Anti-Terrorism Instructor Qualification and Certification Course certified by the U.S. Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School.

A direct report to Darrell Utt is and Jennifer Stockemer - HR Manager. Darrell Utt reports to Chris Cassidy, President and CEO. They are on a team with Rob Shenk - Chief Museum Content Officer, Madeline Bisaccia - Executive Assistant to the President & CEO, and Alexandra Rhue - VP of Finance & Administration.
