Joshua Slater

Commanding Officer, Marine Operations Center - Pacific Islands at NOAA

Joshua Slater has extensive experience in marine operations and management with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) since February 2006. Currently serving as the Commanding Officer of the Marine Operations Center - Pacific Islands and the NOAA Ship Bell M. Shimada, Joshua oversees the safety of the ship and its 41 crew members, ensuring successful navigation and scientific missions. Previous roles include Chief of Staff for Marine Operations, Executive Officer for the NOAA Ship Bell M. Shimada, and Chief of Operations for the Marine Operations Center - Pacific. In addition to significant operational responsibilities, Joshua has acted as a liaison in crucial NOAA initiatives and has participated in major environmental response operations. Joshua holds a Master of Science in Marine Sciences and a Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology from the University of North Carolina Wilmington.
