Sarah Cooley

Sarah Cooley serves as the Director at NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration since August 2024, following a decade of leadership roles at Ocean Conservancy, where responsibilities included directing and managing the ocean acidification program and climate science initiatives. Cooley's background encompasses expertise in science communication, policy development, and interdisciplinary research, with previous positions including Science Outreach Manager and Senior Director of Climate Science. Earlier experience includes roles as a Research Associate at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, Technical Editor at the American Meteorological Society, and freelance science writing and editing. Cooley holds a Ph.D. in Marine Sciences from The University of Georgia and a BS in Chemistry from Haverford College.
