Amitha Sehgal

A Doctor of Philosophy, 2011, in Management, (Studied Corporate Governance of Commercial Banks in India), from S.N.D.T. University, Welingkar Institute Centre, a Master of Philosophy, 1990, in Banking & Finance, (Studied Non-Fund Business of Commercial Banks and impact of Basel 1 norms) from the University of Mumbai.

Over 34 years of teaching and research experience in India, she completed her graduation (1982) and post - graduation from R. A. Podar College in 1984. From 1984 till date she is a lecturer in the degree college at R.A. Podar College. At present, she is an Associate Professor, Department of Commerce & Management, at R.A. Podar College of Commerce & Economics.

She is also an active member (Hon. Secretary, All India Bank Depositors' Association (AIBDA)) on the Board of All India Bank Depositors’ Association.

Other Achievements

She was a Member, Working Group on Customer Service: Codes and Standards, representing the All India Bank Depositors Association, Banking Codes and Standards Board of India (BCSBI).

She is a Member of the Depositor Education & Awareness Fund (DEA Fund), Committee, The Reserve Bank of India.

She is a Member of Committee, External Advisory Committee (EAC) P2P Lending, Department of Non-Banking Companies, RBI

She is a Member, Management Council, Forum of Free Enterprise.

She is the Chairperson for the subject of Advertising, University of Mumbai.

She has been a visiting faculty at Prin. L.N. Welingkar Institute and Somaiya Institute of Management Studies and Research (SIMSR). In both the Management Institutes, she teaches the Full-Time Core PGDBM Courses.

She has been a Lead Trainer, Corporate Governance Programme for Directors, Dun & Bradstreet.

She was Guest Co-editor (India) for a special issue on Corporate Disclosure and Governance in India published in the India Issue of the International Journal of Disclosure & Governance by the international publishing house of Palgrave Macmillan.

She was a Facilitator at the CAFRAL Conference of Financial Sector Regulators on Consumer Protection, Systemic Risk and Market Development, in March 2012.

Publications

Over 30 research papers and articles published in national and international journals/publications and presentations at numerous conferences in India and abroad including the Annual Bank Economists’ Conferences organised by the Indian Banks’Association over the years.

Authored a book “Corporate Governance of Commercial Banks in India: Effect of Internal Governance Mechanism on Banks’ Valuation and Risk, Himalaya Publishing House, 2015. (ISBN No: 978-93-5202-856-6). The book was released by the Dy. Governor of the Reserve Bank of India, Mr. R. Gandhi on 8th September, 2015.

She has written, “Essentials of Advertising,” a standard text & reference book for graduate and post-graduate studies at the Universities of Mumbai (Bombay), Goa, and Pune, and in the Sir J.J. Institute of Applied Art, Mumbai. It’s completely revised and updated 9th edition was released in June, 2010.

A writer of business, banking, economics, and corporate governance, she has published articles in national newspapers like The Economic Times, The Hindu Business Line and international business websites like knowledge@wharton, the research website of the Wharton School of Business. As Associate Dean (Finance), between 2003-2005, at Welingkar Institute of Management and Research, she conceptualized and introduced the Banking Vertical and has designed and executed several corporate training programmes for companies like, Mahindra & Mahindra, Essar Groups Programme for Women Directors, Bharti Group, among others.
