Stuart Chalmers has extensive work experience in various roles related to digital products and scientific computing. From 2020 to the present, they have been the Head of Digital Products & Scientific Computing at the National Physical Laboratory (NPL), where they are responsible for defining and executing the strategy, transforming existing products and services, and building a future roadmap of new digital products. Stuart also leads the Digital NMI Platforms and Services Workstream and acts as a brand ambassador for NPL. Prior to NPL, Chalmers worked at UCL as a Visiting Professor. From 2013 to 2020, they held multiple positions at BRE (Building Research Establishment), including Director of Digital Products, Digital Products Strategy Manager, and BIM Technical Manager. Chalmers was also a Member of the Open Data User Group at the Cabinet Office and held roles at RIBA, University of Glasgow, SP Sveriges Tekniska Forskningsinstitut, University of Aberdeen, and Babcock International Group.
Stuart Chalmers has a strong educational background in computing science and software engineering. Stuart obtained their Ph.D. in Computing Science from the University of Aberdeen in 2002, following their M.Sc. in Intelligent Systems & Applications in 1998. Prior to that, they completed a B.Sc. (Hons.) in Software Engineering (Sandwich Degree) from the University of Paisley between 1991 and 1996.
