Chief Veterinarian at National Pork Board

Dusty Oedekoven has an extensive work experience in the veterinary field. Dusty is currently serving as the Chief Veterinarian at the National Pork Board since February 2022. Prior to this role, they worked as the Executive Director of the South Dakota Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners from July 2016 to February 2022. Dusty also held the position of State Veterinarian and Executive Secretary at the South Dakota Animal Industry Board from September 2003 to February 2022. In addition, Dusty Oedekoven has held temporary positions as the Interim Secretary of Agriculture at the South Dakota Department of Agriculture, from March 2016 to July 2016, and from July 2018 to January 2019. Dusty started their career as a Veterinary Practitioner at the Sheridan Animal Medical Center, where they worked from May 2002 to August 2003.

Dusty Oedekoven completed their Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree in Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University from 1998 to 2002. Before that, they obtained a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Agricultural Sciences from South Dakota State University between 1995 and 1998. In addition to their formal education, Dusty Oedekoven obtained the certification of Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Preventive Medicine from the American College of Veterinary Preventive Medicine in July 2015.
