Buck also held the role of a Senior Account Executive at Tyler Technologies, focusing on selling public safety software solutions. In addition to their corporate experience, they have served as a board member for the Aberdeen Town Council and the Moore County Planning Board. Buck has also held regional sales and account management positions at Southern Software, Inc., Digital Safety Technologies, and Decatur Electronics. Earlier in their career, they were involved in youth ministry at the Grace Church of Southern Pines.

Buck Mims has a diverse education history. Buck attended Barton College from 1986 to 1988, where they studied Computer Science. In 1990, they attended the North Carolina Highway Patrol School and obtained a State Trooper Certificate, focusing on Law Enforcement as it pertains to the NC Highway Patrol. In the same year, they also attended the North Carolina Justice Academy and obtained a BLET Certificate, which specializes in Law Enforcement for Police Departments. Buck earned their High School Diploma from Halifax Academy in 1988. Additionally, they enrolled in Craven Community College from 1998 to 1999, studying IT. In 2002, they attended Gold's Gym University and graduated with a Diploma in Gold's Gym Ownership / Management. Buck also holds several certifications, including being a Prosci® Certified Change Practitioner, Rapid Deployment Instructor for Active Shooter, Specialized Firearms Instructor, Law Enforcement Training Instructor (General), and an Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate.
