Liya Amelga

Liya Amelga has a diverse work experience starting from 2011. Liya began their career as a Law Clerk to the Director of Legislative Affairs at the Maryland Office of the Attorney General. In 2012, they transitioned into the education field as a Special Assistant to the Board of School Commissioners at Baltimore City Public Schools. From 2017 to 2019, they worked as an Associate Director, K-12 Reform at ExcelinEd. Liya then moved on to the National School Boards Association where they held multiple roles, including Program Lead, Equity and Member Services and Director, Equity and Member Services. Liya'smost recent position was as the Managing Director, Strategy and Operations at ExcelinEd from 2020 to 2023. Currently, they are the Chief of Staff at the National School Boards Association.

Liya Amelga completed their Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Maryland in 2009. Liya then proceeded to pursue their professional degree in Law, earning a Doctor of Law (J.D.) from the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law from 2009 to 2012. In 2020, Liya Amelga obtained a Certificate in Diversity and Inclusion from Cornell University.
