David Flaherty

David Flaherty is a highly experienced marine engineer and casualty investigator currently serving as a Senior Marine Engineer/Casualty Investigator at the National Transportation Safety Board since 2018. Previously, David held the position of Captain in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1992 to 2017, where responsibilities included leading the Traveling Inspector Staff and serving as Deputy Sector Commander in Sector San Juan. David's early career included sailing as a USCG Licensed Marine Engineer and serving as a Merchant Marine Reserve Officer in the US Navy Reserve. David's educational background includes a Master of Science in Fire Protection from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, an MBA from Canisius University, and a Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering from Massachusetts Maritime Academy.
