Richard Manton currently serves as the Director of Sustainability at the University of Galway, leading the Sustainability Office to implement an ambitious sustainability strategy while actively engaging in the Community & University Sustainability Partnership (CUSP). Previously, Richard was the Registrar & Chief Risk Officer at Engineers Ireland, overseeing accreditation, registration, and risk management, and played a key role in the restructuring of professional titles, including introducing a Chartered Environmentalist title. Richard also held the position of Sustainability Chair at Bus Éireann, where accountability included establishing a Board Sustainability Committee and contributing to the CIÉ Group's Sustainability Strategy Advisory Group. Earlier academic roles included a Postdoctoral Researcher & Lecturer at the University of Galway, focusing on sustainable mobility and nearly zero-energy buildings, and completion of a PhD in Civil Engineering at the same institution, with additional qualifications in Financial Management and Digital Transformation Management.
