Joel Carnes has a diverse work experience in various leadership roles. Joel is currently serving as the Chief Operating Officer at Nationwide Pet. Prior to this, they were the Chief Executive Officer at Alliance for Innovation from 2018 to 2021. Joel also worked as the Chief Operating Officer at SecondMuse from 2016 to 2017. Before that, they held the position of Vice President Operations and Strategy at XPRIZE from 2013 to 2016. Joel was the Director of Central Operations at Activision in 2012. From 2010 to 2012, they worked at The Walt Disney Company as a Senior Strategist and later as the Director of Business Operations and Strategy. Joel began their career at Trifecta Clinical and worked there as the Director of Operations from 2005 to 2010.

Joel Carnes holds a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Social Ecology from UC Irvine. Joel also completed an Executive Program in Exponential Technologies at Singularity University. Currently, Joel is enrolled in the Lean Leader Academy at The Ohio State University, where they are expected to complete their degree between 2022 and 2033. In addition to their formal education, Joel Carnes has obtained certifications as a Certified Scrum Master (CSM) from the Scrum Alliance in 2010 and as a Project Management Professional (PMP) from the Project Management Institute in 2002.
