Rae-Wen Chang started their career in 2001 at the Royal Adelaide Hospital as an Internship/Resident Medical Officer. They then worked for the Royal Australian Air Force from 2003 to 2006 as a Medical Officer, which included deployments to various regions. From 2006 to 2012, they served as a GP and Aviation Medical Examiner at Emirates Airline. In 2012, Rae-Wen Chang began working at NATS, first as an Aviation Medical Examiner and Specialty Registrar in Occupational Medicine, and later as the Chief Medical Officer, leading a team providing aeromedical and occupational medical expertise. Additionally, from 2012 to 2015, they also represented occupational medicine specialty registrars at the Faculty of Occupational Medicine (UK).

Rae-Wen Chang completed their education history with a MBBS degree from the University of Adelaide in 2000. They then went on to pursue a MPH degree in Public Health at The University of Queensland from 2005 to 2008. Subsequently, they earned multiple diplomas and certifications in Occupational and Aviation Medicine from various institutions, including The University of Manchester and the Faculty of Occupational Medicine (UK). Their education journey culminated in the completion of a MFOM degree from the Faculty of Occupational Medicine (UK) in 2016.
