Jenny Shalant

Editorial Director at Natural Resources Defense Council

Jenny Shalant has a diverse work experience in the field of editorial and content production. Jenny started their career in 2001 as an Assistant Editor at Holiday House, where they assisted in developing a list of 60 children's books and proofread titles. In 2004, they moved to the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), initially working as a Copy Editor and later becoming the Web Managing Editor. At WCS, they directed the digital content strategy and wrote articles for their websites. In 2010, they worked as a freelance content producer for OnEarth.org, a project of the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC). From 2014 to 2016, they served as the Director of Digital Marketing at the Museum of the City of New York, where they led their digital marketing strategy and oversaw email marketing, social media, and website management. Currently, since November 2016, Jenny holds the position of Senior Editor at the Natural Resources Defense Council, and as of April 2021, they have taken on the role of Editorial Director. In addition to their professional engagements, they also contributed essays to the historical city guide called "30-Second New York" as a freelance writer for The Quarto Group.

Jenny Shalant obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Creative Writing from Columbia University in 2001. Jenny went on to pursue a Master of Science degree in Journalism from Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism from 2008 to 2010. In 2000, they also had the opportunity to study English Literature as part of a semester abroad program at the University of York.
