Irene Fernandez-Ruiz

Irene Fernandez-Ruiz is a Senior Editor at Nature Reviews Cardiology, a position held since September 2015. Prior to this role, Irene served as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Central Florida from 2012 to 2015, focusing on the innate immune system in atherosclerosis. Irene also contributed to the science news digital newspaper diarioabierto.es from March 2011 to December 2013, writing weekly articles on cutting-edge science. As a PhD Researcher at Hospital Universitario La Paz-IdiPaz from 2007 to 2011, Irene investigated the innate immune system in sepsis, cancer, and cardiovascular disease. Irene's academic journey includes a Master of Sciences research position at CNIO in 2006, a PhD in Molecular Biology from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, and a Bachelor's degree in Biology from Universidad Complutense de Madrid, complemented by an Erasmus Fellowship at the University of Birmingham.
