My role with NatureScot is to provide advice and guidance to colleagues and external organisations/ individuals on marine enhancement/ restoration. Myself and my Marine Enhancement Adviser colleague, Brodie Thomas, now split the country between us - I cover the West coast and islands, and share Orkney and Shetland with Brodie. I also have input on relevant research projects and steering groups, and am a member of the SMEEF grants panel. Currently restoration efforts in Scottish waters are focusing on native oysters and seagrass, together with coastal habitats such as saltmarsh and sand dunes, but are likely to include other species such as blue mussels in future. As well as having a background in marine biology/ ecology/ environmental management, I have hands-on experience of working with native oysters, including testing and carrying out practical enhancement approaches.
